  1. A Guide To Skincare For Beginners In Their 20s

    Posted on

Skincare is something that many tend to avoid doing because it’s not something that has become a habit from childhood. We don’t see kids applying anything other than suncream when it comes to skincare products, after all.

However, a skincare routine from a young age can be extremely helpful in preventing skin damage, along with the general signs of ageing in general.

Incorporating a skincare routine in the 20s is well worthwhile

A skincare routine in a person’s twenties can be extremely helpful. Incorporating even just one or two products could make a significant difference to the appearance of the skin and its overall condition

For the future self, they’ll be thanking their younger self for introducing a skincare routine from a young age. According to Statista, 63% of millennial consumers in the US, take care of their skin routine seriously. That’s those in their twenties and thirties now.

With that being said, what guidance can help those that want to introduce skincare into their routine during their 20s?

Clean and cleanse the skin twice a day

Cleaning and cleansing are good ways to help provide a blank canvas for the skin. There’s a lot of dirt that collects on the face, regardless of where a person goes and what they do during the day. Add makeup to the mix and there’s a lot of stuff sitting on the skin.

With that in mind, a cleanser will remove any makeup and dirt on the skin. For those with oily skin, a water or gel type cleanser is useful whilst those with dry, combination or normal skin could use an oil, balm or cream type cleanser.  After cleansing you should always be followed up with toner to rebalance the skin Ph levels and a moisturiser and min SPF 15 sunscreen for your morning routine, even on cloudy days.

Do a weekly facial scrub to remove dead skin cells

A weekly facial scrub can be a great way of removing dead skin cells that are currently still on the skin’s surface. While it shouldn’t be done too often, it’s a good way of stimulating the production of new skin cells  and will reveal a glowy look underneath.

Be careful about what facial scrubs are being used as some are more abrasive than others. Depending on the sensitivity of a person’s skin, it might be best to stick to low abrasive options when it comes to the face.

Use products suitable for your skin type

There are lots of different skincare products that can be incorporated into the process. From serums, moisturisers, and night creams, there are a lot of choices. Some choose to go for a seven-step routine, while others streamline their routine to make it easier and less of a hassle.  Whether your routine is simple or complex, choose products which are suitable for your skin type e.g oily, dry and also for specific skin conditions you may or may not have such as congestion, acne, roseacea.  My Skin Care guide has a lot more detailed information on the types of products that you can use.

    Consider additional cosmetic treatments

For those who have signs of premature ageing caused by sun damage or lifestyle choices such as smoking there are additional treatments that a person can get within the cosmetic industry.  There are lots of options out there nowadays from Profhilo to Botox or non invasive facials such as Non Surgical Face Lift, also known as microcurrent.

    Make postive lifestyle choices

In addition to what you put on your skin, to keep it in the best condition you also need to eat a balanced nutiritious diet, drink plenty of water and as mentioned earlier, use SPF cream on a daily basis.  Stress and poor sleep can also contribute towards skin health as can smoking, some medication and of course, recreational drug use.

With the twenties being a time when the youthful glow is in its prime, it’s worthwhile prolonging it for as long as possible by incorporating a solid skincare routine and healthy lifestyle choices.

  2. 3 Sustainable Tips To Get Your Health Under Control

    Posted on

The fact is that none of us can get our health completely under control. None of us know what our health might look like in ten years, and of course, what issues we may be genetically or unfortunately predisposed to experiencing. Health is wealth, but it’s never something we can perfectly predict. Anyone promising you otherwise will be selling you snake oil.

However, it is important to consider that to a large extent, depending on your levels of wellness and the ability to make executive decisions that help assuage issues or promote a good lifestyle, you do get to have a say. For this reason, getting your health under control is often much easier to do if we know what little victories we can find, and how to win them sustainably in the long term.

With this, we do have an approximation of what we may consider control. It’s how some people have managed to lose 150lb over the course of a few years, and why those with unfortunate health issues still manage to squeeze the best quality of life they can. How do they do this? Let’s discuss this below:

Try & Substitute Your Bad Habits

Bad habits can take positive progress and completely overcome it. Anyone who has dieted all week only to drink a couple of bottles of wine and absolutely demolish a charcuterie board at the weekend knows that struggle. This is why it’s good to try and work on those bad habits to begin with, such as by making sure you drink plenty of water in the evenings and switching out the alcohol for fruit teas, or using CBD patches to help with anxiety. Over time, it can help you enact a new normal.

Read Into The Health Topic & Become Fascinated

Personal health improvements and wellness care are fascinating topics to consider. Trying different skincare products, reading into how different ingredients help your skin and the history behind them (aloe vera, for example, is fascinating), will help you feel more interested about learning; and you may gain some great advice or draw your own excellent conclusions from that. In other words, don’t think of personal healthcare as a chore, when it can also be a fun exercise you enjoy doing. The best example? Trying all new healthy cuisine in the kitchen.

    Take The Proper Route

Shortcuts and simple pathways never really lead to good outcomes, only constant repetitions of the same bad practice. For that reason, instead of taking weight loss pills or yo-yo dieting, eating a simple balanced diet with 250-500 calories less than your maintenance can be the best way to make consistent progress that lasts. You’ll probably think the same way over time, enjoying your path forward in the best possible sense.

With this advice, we’re certain that you’ll get your health under control, as much as is possible, by focusing on sustainability and enjoyment instead of a dour, sombre, duty that you don’t really wish to keep up with. It’s all about that forward progress.
