  1. Ayurvedic Tips for Autumn Balance

In Ayurveda, autumn is considered a Vata time of year, characterised by cooler, drier and often changeable weather.

It's therefore a lovely time to focus on keeping yourself warm, grounded, nourished and well-rested.

Here are a few simple Ayurvedic-inspired tips to help you transition into autumn.

    • Stay Warm and Grounded
    • Make time for warm baths, cosy evenings and gentle movement.
    • Walking, yoga, swimming or simple stretching can all help you stay active while encouraging a sense of grounding and relaxation.
    • Nourish Your Skin - as the weather becomes cooler and drier, your skin may need a little extra nourishment. Consider switching to richer facial oils, creams or body products if your skin starts feeling dry or tight.
    • Keep Hydrated - remember to drink enough throughout the day. As the weather cools, warming drinks such as ginger or turmeric tea can be a comforting addition to your autumn routine.
    • Eat Seasonally - Autumn is a lovely time for warming, nourishing meals such as soups, stews and dishes containing seasonal root vegetables.  Continue to include plenty of fruit and vegetables too, providing a good variety of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients as part of a balanced diet.
    • Slow Down - Autumn is a natural opportunity to start slowing down after the busier energy of summer. Prioritise rest, regular routines and simple self-care rituals that help you feel calm, comfortable and grounded.  And if the darker days affect your mood or energy levels significantly, speak to your GP or healthcare professional for appropriate advice.
    • Autumnal Pampering - if you're in need of a little autumnal warmth, a Hot Stone Massage is one of my favourite treatments for this time of year. The combination of warm stones, massage and a cosy treatment environment makes it a wonderfully relaxing way to ease into the colder months.

Sometimes the best way to embrace autumn is simply to slow down, get warm and give yourself permission to rest.

  2. elemis-superfood-midnight-facial-cream-review (1)
I was recently a very lucky lady and  won a competition that Keeley Aydin (Elemis Skincare Specialist) ran on her Facebook page.  The prize was a 4 piece Elemis Superfood skincare set and the Superfood Midnight Facial cream was one of the products in the set.

The Superfood Midnight Facial Cream is described as a "prebiotic overnight sleeping cream that leaves dry, thirsty skin feeling silky soft, radiant and replenished with moisture upon waking".  So it fits into the final step of your night time routine. Personally I double cleanse, tone, add a few drops of Elemis pro defnition or superfood oil and then apply my superfood midnight facial cream.

    Aroma and Texture

The aroma of the Midnight Facial cream smells edible, like a fresh fruit smoothie or cocktail minus the alcohol! It is not sickly sweet or sugarey though.

The texture is like a gel cream, so neither too light nor too heavy and is easily asborbed into my skin, which is dry/oily combination.

    Ingredients

In terms of active ingredients, it contains Camu Camu, a source of Vitamin C, and Cocoa Butter which contains Omega 6 & 9 Fatty Acids, which provide skin with essential moisture and Banana Flower Extract which has hydrating and prebiotic properties.

The full ingredient list is here:

Aqua Water/Eau, Peg-8, Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Sodium Polyacrylate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Hydroxyacetophenone, Phenoxyethanol, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Fragrance (Parfum), Carbomer, Disodium Edta, Alpha-Glucan Oligosaccharide, Bentonite, Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan) Extract, Passiflora Edulis Seed Oil, Limonene, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Propanediol, Glyceryl Acrylate/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Linalool, Benzyl Alcohol, Citronellol, Lithothamnion Calcareum Extract, Sodium Hydroxide, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Extract, Litsea Cubeba Fruit Oil, Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Oil, Musa Sapientum (Banana) Flower Extract, Citral, Myrciaria Dubia Fruit Extract, Tocopherol, Dehydroacetic Acid, Sodium Benzoate, Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate

    The Verdict

The morning after using the Elemis Superfood Midnight Facial Cream, my skin looked plumped up and felt smooth and refreshed.  I would not say that my skin felt that hydrated though, so this may not be suitable for those who have very dry skin, a richer night cream maybe more suitable.

Overall, I love the aroma, the texture and I think for me personally this is a product that I will use more in the spring and summer months as I do need and prefer the extra moisture from rich night creams in autumn and winter.  However, as the aroma is so fruity and uplifting, I may be tempted to use it during the autumn and winter just for an uplift and reminder of a beach holiday and cocktails!

If you are lucky enough to read this in time, QVC have a fantastic Elemis big deal on offer at the moment which includes the Elemis Superfood Midnight Facial Cream, Superfood AHA Cleansing Glow Butter, Superfood Kefir Tea Mist and Superfood Facial Oil for only £49.98!

    Until next time
